American Chamber recognizes Sri Lanka's President for his commitment to mitigate climate change

Jan 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena was recognized by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Sri Lanka for his commitment to mitigate climate change.

The President was presented an award for his commitment and efforts towards mitigating climate change by the AmCham Sri Lanka at a workshop on ‘Climate Change: Opportunities and Challenges for Business' held today at the Galle Face Hotel, under the patronage of President Sirisena.

President of the AmCham Ravin Basnayake on behalf of its Board of Directors presented the award to the President at the workshop organized by the AmCham.

The keynote address of the event was delivered by Professor Sir Robert Tony Watson, the Chairman of the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.

He emphasized the importance of minimizing carbon emissions to the environment and asked the world to focus more attention on Climate Change. Prof. Watson pointed out that Sri Lanka remains at a better level on climate change when compared with other countries and lauded the steps taken by Sri Lanka in the generation of renewable energy.

Opportunities and challenges for business as a result of the climate change in the present world came up for discussion at the conference.

Minister Faizer Mustafa and Prof. Mohan Munasinghe were among those who participated in this event.
