Thajudeen murder case: CID interrogates two military officers

Feb 02, Colombo: The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Sri Lanka police today informed the Colombo Magistrate Court that two military officers who were in charge of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's security were interrogated on the murder of the national rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.

Deputy Solicitor General Dilan Ratnayake representing the Attorney General informed the court that the interrogations were carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department.

The CID has interrogated the two senior military officers following the details revealed after analyzing records of phone calls from the Presidential Secretariat on the night of the murder. The two officers attached to the Presidential Security Division have received suspicious calls from the Presidential Secretariat.

Meanwhile, the court was informed that the report on the analysis of the CCTV video footage obtained on the vehicle that followed Thajudeen's vehicle on the night the murder, had not yet been received.

The Colombo Magistrate's Court meanwhile, remanded the former senior DIG Anura Senanayake and former Crimes OIC of Narahenpita Police station Sumith Chinthaka Perera have until 16 February.

Perera and former Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake are charged with concealing evidence of foul play in the death of the player.

Thajudeen died on May 17, 2012 in Kirulapone when his car crashed into a wall and caught fire. Earlier it was ruled as an accidental death but the recent investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had found that the player was killed before the accident and the accident was staged.
