Atmospheric disturbances are likely in the next few days because of heavy Southwest winds, The Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
A spokesman told Daily Mirror Southwest winds would also result in heavy rains.
Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Rains are also expected in North-Western and Northern provinces as well.
Showers or thundershowers were predicted at several places in Eastern and Uva Provinces after 2.00 pm.
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) yesterday issued landslide warnings in several areas with the rainfall within the past 24 hours exceeding 75mm in most parts of the country.
It said people should, be alert to the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cut failures and ground subsidence in Eheliyagoda divisional secretariat division and surroundings areas. Specially Karadana North and West, Kalatuwawa West, Makota, Deiyagala, Welligoda, Bopatta, Athgangula, Mahahara, Thalawitiya and Arapola GN Divisions. (Yohan Perera)
