Sri Lanka PM to leave for Davos meeting tomorrow

Jan 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will leave the island tomorrow to attend the 47th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe has been invited to attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017 from 17-20 January 2017 with the participation of over 40 heads of state and 2500 economists.

Issuing a statement the Office of the Prime Minister said the Premier will meet with Switzerland officials and leading international businessmen for discussions during his stay in Davos.

The summit is of great significance as world leaders gather to compile an agenda for the global and regional economy, the statement said.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe attended the Davos meeting last year. It was the first time that a Sri Lankan political leader has been invited to attend the world renowned meeting.

Ministers Ravi Karunanayaka, Malik Samarawickrema and Harin Fernando have been invited to the summit. The Prime Minister's office said that Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister's Secretary Saman Ekanayake, Prime Minister's additional Secretary Saman Athaudahetti and Personal Assistant Sandra Perera are accompanying the Prime Minister.
