Pakistan FM discusses security situation in the region with his Sri Lankan counterpart

Feb 24, Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke with his Sri Lankan counterpart Tilak Marapana regarding security situation in the region, Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a release.
Foreign Minister said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with Sri Lanka, which is an important neighbor and friend. Further elaborating, he said that Pakistan is a responsible country which desires peace and stability in the region. Peace is a precursor for socio-economic benefits and prosperity.
He also informed the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister that in his letter to the President of UNSC (UN Security Council), he had underscored the importance of maintaining a peaceful South Asia.
In his response the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister said that his country staunchly supports peace in the region and Sri Lanka reiterates that maintaining stability in South Asia should be a priority for all countries.
