PM says development of the country will not be halted despite challenges

Aug 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says development of the country has not been stopped despite whatever the challenges faced by the government.
The Prime Minister said so while participating in a function held at the Badalkumbura Divisional Secretariat in Moneragala district.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe opened the new two storied building of the Badalkumbura Divisional Secretariat. The building was constructed at a cost of Rs. 22 million.
Speaking at the occasion, the Premier said the government is in the process of modernization of the economy and modernization of agriculture industry is part of the process.
Regardless of whatever problems the government may have, money will be found for development, the Premier said.
“Everybody said the economy collapsed after the Easter Sunday bombings. We found money to pay benefits to more Samurdhi beneficiaries, to grant more land deeds to landless people. We need to take that development forward. Similarly, we plan to develop large industrial zones in the next few years. Hambantota port has already been developed and the Mattala Airport will also be developed in cooperation with India. Tourism industry will also be developed,” he said.
The Prime Minister also opened the new building of the Siyambalaanduwa Divisional Secretariat in Moneragala built at a cost of Rs. 67 million with many modern facilities.
The Prime Minister also attended a function to pay compensation to the farmers of the Moneragala district whose cultivations have been destroyed due to drought. A large number of farmers were paid compensation at the function.
A group of people including Ministers Vajira Abeywardena, Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri were present on the occasion.
