Comprehensive program implemented to develop the temple and the village – PM

Mar 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says this government is the one that implemented a comprehensive program to develop the Temples and villages as no other government has done in the past by allocating money to activate a broad program.
The Prime Minister expressed these views participating in a religious function held at Sri Devathissa Raja Maha Viharaya, Mahaelagamuwa at Kekirawa.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe laid the foundation stone for a two-storey Dharmasalawa at the Temple and unveiled the Ran weta (Golden fence) around the Bodhi Tree.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister said that due to the Mahaweli Scheme initiated by former President JR Jayewardene, the dry zone received a new life. The present government has taken measures to develop the rural economy as the next step, the Prime Minister noted.
He said 330 million rupees have been released for every village under the Gamperaliya program. If money is needed to launch a development program in a village that money will be released to Gamperaliya program as well as to the Enterprise Sri Lanka Program.
“With all these programs with aim to increase the amount of money for the village we are working to reduce the burden of loans and increase the amount of the money in the hands of people,” he said.
“We also working at the development of temples. The President is giving money for this, we are releasing money for this. Even the money from the Gamperaliya program can be released for the development of temples directly,” he added.
Chief Incumbent of the Devadathissa Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Senadiriyagama Vimalajoth Thero, Maha Sangha and Minister Ms. Chandrani Bandara also were present at the occasion.
