ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has confirmed 70 Covid-19 Coronavirus cases by March 20 including a Chinese woman who was found in January, the health ministry said as the government clamped full day country-wide curfews over the weekend to arrest the pandemic.
According to the Epidemiology Unit of the government’s Ministry of Health as of 10 March 20, 18 of the confirmed cases are from Gampaha, 17 are from Colombo and 12 are from Puttalam.
Kurunegala and Kalutara reported 4 cases each, 3 are from Ratnapura while Galle, Kegalle, Matara, Batticaloa and Badulla reported one case each.
These statistics are drawn from where these patients are in residence and not where they were found, the Ministry said.
The oldest patient is a 73-year-old man from Galle who is now under treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
In addition, 218 patients are currently under observation in hospitals in major urban centres across the country.
Three of the confirmed cases are foreigners. (Colombo/Mar18/2020)
