Sri Lanka PM aims to steer country to a new era with modernization of economy

July 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the country will be transformed into a new era with the modernization of the rural and urban economy to provide new employment opportunities for future generations.
Mr. Wickremesinghe said that the country’s economy has been stabilized and the reconciliation process is taking place and the next target is to rapidly develop the country. He said the advantages of the economic transformation will be given to the youth creating more employment opportunities.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe announced these plans addressing a ceremony held at the Temple Trees Tuesday (30) to hand over appointment letters for government sector positions to 16,800 unemployed graduates.
The Prime Minister also formally launched the ‘e-Learning’ system for updating and transmitting information to graduate recipients.
Addressing the gathering Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said, the government provided various programs for rural development and infrastructure was developed accordingly with the huge support from the development officers.
“Now we have to think anew. We should focus on improving the rural economy as well as improving rural infrastructure. There is another group of unemployed graduates like you, who are getting appointments today. Our goal is to find employment for all of them. The next step of this program is to provide employment opportunities to external graduates.”
The Premier said the country needs to change direction it has taken till now and needs to be directed towards social investments.
“As a country, we must move forward and make progress, not stagnate due to politics or other factors. We have been able to bring about stability and reconciliation in the country. In this context, we can move forward. Our first goal should be to develop this country further. Here we have to think anew about the political, social and economic framework. The country should be moved towards a new era using new technology. We must move forward with a modernization of the rural and urban economy without leaving unemployment to future generations. “Let’s think new, Let’s move forward.” The country needs a modernization that will take the country 30 – 40 years ahead in the 21st century. ”
Expressing his views, the Minister of Public Administration, Disaster Management and Livestock Development Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that the public servants have been provided with the necessary environment to carry out their duties with dignity and their basic salaries have been increased by Rs. 10,000.
Minister of Internal and Home Affairs Vajira Abeywardena, Minister of Education and UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne, State Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs Niroshan Perera, State Minister for Internal Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government C. Alawathuwala, Minister of State for Mass Media and Defense Ruwan Wijewardene, MPs AHM Fowzie, Wijaypala Hettiarachchi, Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa, S. Ali Zaheer Moulana Kavinda Jayawardena, and Mujibur Rahman, and a large number of government officials and appointees were present.
