The inauguration of the “Mithra Shakthi” joint military Exercise -2017 took place at the parade square of 2 MARATHA Infantry battalion in Pune, India on 13th October.
During the ceremony, the Indian and Sri Lankan Army Contingents marched in to the parade square, together with two colour squads who carried national flags of both the countries. Brigadier Alok Chandra, Brigade Commander, 330 Infantry Brigade of the Indian Army at Aundh cantonment was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He was accompanied by the Exercise Director, Sri Lankan Army contingent, Brigadier Ajith Pallawela.
As a demonstrative gesture, a fly past of two Indian Army aviation helicopters carrying national flags of India and Sri Lanka took place. A spectacular cultural display took place after the parade marched out. Soldiers of Gurkha Rifle Regiment displayed their famous Khukri dance while performing the ‘Ves Kandyan' dancing by the troops of Sri Lankan Army contingent at the occasion. After the opening ceremony, a display of infantry weapons and equipment used by the Indian Army was exhibited at the same venue.
