Another travel day as we make our way from Galle all the way to Udawalawa.

Not making the same mistake twice, I decided to start off with breakfast in my hotel as I knew we were only going to snack along the way!

Around lunch time we got to meet up with a family that cooked for us a typical home style in the country meal. Now that I have left Sri Lanka, I can say, this was still one of the best Rice and Curries I had while in Sri Lanka.

The loving family and just amazing hospitality really left a great impression on me and I loved the chance to be welcomed into their home!!!

This is our final episode of our Sri Lankan Food series and you are NOT going to want to miss this episode! Today, we are taking you to experience traditional FAMILY HOME-COOKED food, with lots of different Sri Lankan dishes. We start by meeting the family and sharing tea and honey-filled string hoppers. Then, the family shows us their garden, where we picked an entire basket of organic vegetables, from eggplants to beans, this family grew it all! We even picked a jackfruit from the top of a tree.

The family takes every ingredient back to the house where they start preparing them into Sri Lankan style curries. Watching the process from start to finish and then eating the delicious final product was an incredible experience, connecting with the local family through FOOD! These women are incredible chefs!

In the evening, the family cooks a delicious snack – boiled corn, paired with herbal tea. We enjoy our food and tea up in their tree house that overlooks the nearby lake. They explain that the tree house’s purpose was to serve as a nighttime lookout spot for farmers to protect their gardens from elephants. All of the food that the family graciously prepared for us was INSANELY DELICIOUS!

Welcome back to JAFFNA – a city in the north of Sri Lanka packed with its own CUISINE! Today we are taking you for another unique food experience. We will be joined by Ashok (a Jaffna local) and his family at a CHAOTIC fish market and auction to pick our the FRESHEST SEAFOOD for our family meal. We take it back to Ashok’s family home, where they introduce dishes not many Sri Lankans have ever heard about: KHOOL soup! Khool is a seafood stew mixed with a TON of spices to bring out Jafffna’s rich & deep flavours. The family also cooks us an INCREDIBLE and SPICY prawn curry, crab curry and MORE. Later we visit one of the most important Hindu sites in the whole country to see how the culture differs from the rest of the country and finish our day cooling off at the famous RIO ice cream. What an amazing experience!
